Why can screens make the eyes feel dry?
People often blink less frequently when reading or concentrating on a screen. This can allow tears to evaporate more quickly and contribute to dryness, grittiness or temporary blur.
Small habits to try
- Take regular breaks and look at distant objects.
- Blink fully and consciously during long screen sessions.
- Keep the screen at a comfortable distance and slightly below eye level.
- Reduce direct airflow from fans or air conditioning toward the eyes.
When to get checked
Persistent discomfort, red eyes, pain, light sensitivity or reduced vision may have causes beyond screen use. An eye examination can guide appropriate treatment.
Do not begin medicated eye drops without advice from a qualified professional.
